Simba’s August Blog

This past month I went with Ashley and Dan on a road trip for 4 weeks straight! We stayed in a motor home the whole time. At first I was a little nervous because I don’t love being stuck in a car, but the RV was big and it felt like we were at home! There were couches, a table, a kitchen and everything we have at home, but there was a steering wheel at the front of it! It was pretty cool and fun to ride in.

We drove to Denver, CO first and I sat up in the front dash and checked out the view. We stayed at a national park for a few days and while the folks were out exploring I spent my time running from one end of the coach to the other, sleeping, and unraveling the paper towel and the toilet paper rolls. I had a great time! Next we drove with her team from Denver to Seattle. We drove through mountains covered in trees with little streams and lakes and we drove through the whole night! Ashley’s crew guy DJ drove with us so I sat up with him to keep him company. We stopped at the gas station at one point and I think Ashley was thinking we were going to get a hotel for the night so she was crushed when Dan and DJ told her they were going to drive through the night. Then they broke the news that dinner was going to be from the gas station store. You should have seen her face! The guys and I were all laughing. She may be a race car driver but she’s still a girl at heart and doesn’t like roughing it! So she got her Top Ramen noodles and I had some bites of my food and then we were back on the road!

When we got to Seattle we were parked down at the end of the track. It was really cool because in the morning I would lie in the front window and watch the sportsman cars go by. They were our wake up call. We were parked with all of the other racers and at one point Ashley let me wander outside to get some fresh air and I took off under Matt Hagen’s bus! It was so much fun playing chase with Ashley under all the motor homes. She wasn’t very happy though! At the end of the weekend I got to go to my first winner’s circle when my aunt Courtney won her first race. She’s my babysitter a lot of the time so she really wanted me in the pictures. It was a lot of fun but after a while I was tired of smiling so I decided to go mingle with some fans.

After Seattle we drove with Ashley’s crew chief Guido and his wife Kelly down to Sonoma. Kelly is really allergic to me but that didn’t stop me from spending basically the whole trip lying by her feet! We went to the Sonoma national event and the coolest thing ever happened! They made a race t shirt with me on it! And I look super cute too. The t shirt is called Fast and Furriest and I’m really proud of it. I even signed a few shirts for the fans! I’m probably going to have to get a bodyguard and an agent soon with how famous I’ve become! After the event we drove over to Oakdale, where Ashley’s good friend Eric grew up. We hung out with his mom Mimi, and their friends and family and I even got to meet my first horse! He didn’t say much, he just smelled a little funny. I also got to meet a dog and I am not a fan of that species. He came running up to me like he thought the two of us would go off and play in the grass together or something! What was he thinking? He’s a dog and I’m not. I hang out with my own breed like Ashley and Dan.

All in all it was a great trip. We saw a lot of cool things, I got to sleep a lot and early in the morning I got to run back and forth from one end of the RV to the other. It doesn’t get much better than that. I’d say it was a “purr”fect road trip!
