Simba’s July Blog

I don’t know about all of you but it is hot! I mean, I have this thick beautiful silver coat of fur and it’s really starting to bother me! Summertime in California is warm! Fortunately my parents Ashley and Dan spoil me and leave all of the windows open while they are at home so that I can lay by them and stalk birds. And they even leave the air conditioning on for me when they are out running errands. But it’s still hot and I hope you all are enjoying your summer! I’ve been actually very busy and divide most of my time between sleeping and having Ashley pet me. I know, I know. I need to relax a little and take a little “me” time but some things just have to get done.

I think that my parents might be crazy. They are always on the road and traveling from race track to race track. Ashley never puts her suitcase away. She just grabs everything out of it and throws it in the washing machine and then folds it and puts it back in. I usually help her by laying and rolling around on all of her piles of clean clothes and also by laying inside her suitcase. This past weekend however they didn’t have a race. Hooray! A weekend at home! Oh no, not my folks! They packed me up along with my food and toys and we drove up north to Lake Tahoe for the weekend!

Fortunately for me it was actually a little cooler up there since it is in the mountains. And there are some crazy animals there that aren’t at home. I watched a lizard doing push ups on a rock, a squirrel as small as my paw with a tail twice as long, and a blue bird outside the window. That bird was really irritating me too! He just kept hanging outside on the back porch reminding me that I’m an indoor cat.

Dan and Ashley’s friends from Chicago, Justin and Sarah, came and stayed with us. They love animals so I was getting all kinds of attention this weekend! They were telling me all about their dog Herman. He sounds just about as spoiled as me! They even said that they had a birthday party for him complete with a cake he got to eat! Since my birthday was coming up a few days later this made me very interested to see how great my parents are and how they measure up with the Chicago parents.

My favorite time of day was when they would all come back from the beach and hang around the house and play cards around a table. I’d get really excited and start running through the whole house and playing with any cat toy that I passed. I’m pretty sure I impressed all of them. Herman may be able to eat a whole cake but can he do flips on the staircase and attack the blinds and try to climb in to the fireplace?! I bet not!

Soon the weekend was over and it was time to go home. I was really bummed since I was having so much fun at the lake but then I remembered that my birthday was coming up! I turned 1 year old on Tuesday July 7! It also happened to be Dan’s birthday and Ashley’s sister Brittany’s birthday on July 8th, and Ashley’s mom’s birthday on the 10th! Ashley decided to have a birthday party for all of us! (I was a little mad that I had to share my birthday with the others but once the presents started showing up I got over it.) It was a great party! Ashley and her sister Courtney decorated the house with balloons and decorations including kitten and Transformers decorations. (The cat stuff was for me and the Transformers stuff was for Dan because he’s a big kid!) They let me play out on the patio which they never let me do, and they made dinner and had all of their family and friends over including John and Laurie, Jerry and Debbie Darien from the A Fuel dragster team, Josh, Jen and baby Quinlan Miller from next door, Joan, Alicia, Ashley D. Andrew and Chad from work, uncle Dave, aunt Liz, Allison and Hannah Arritt (who I played with all night!) and some other friends and we all had a great time! Everyone brought presents for me like little furry animals and toys for me to play with and then it was time for dessert and Ashley brought out my own cake with my picture on it! I was so excited! Just like Herman the dog, I got my cake. Then I found a fly in the corner trying to get out and I was over the cake and back in attack mode.

We had a great night with a lot of celebration and we were exhausted at the end of it all. The next morning I woke up in a pile of wrapping paper and was looking forward to laying there for awhile. And that’s when I saw it…the suitcase at the top of the stairs. Oh no! We are leaving home again! My parents are very sneaky and waited until that morning to tell me we were going on the road across the country for the next month in an El Monte motor home that they had rented. I have no idea what a motor home is I do know that a month is like 20 months in cat years. And so we are back on the road again and the adventure continues…
