“My New Competition”

For my whole life, all 9 months of it, I’ve always been pretty much the center of attention. Ashley and Dan are always cuddling and playing with me, when Ashley’s niece Autumn comes over, she carries me all around the house; and when I go to the races all the crew guys and the fans want to hang out with me. Well the other day someone new entered the house and I’m not too happy about it because he’s stealing away some of my spotlight.

His name is Wally and he is a trophy that just came to live with us a few days ago. Ashley and Dan went off to someplace called Houston, Texas while I stayed home and watched over the place (and their friends Josh and Jen came and checked up on me to make sure I didn’t unravel the toilet paper roll again). When my owners arrived home they brought something with them that they did not have before. They called it a Wally. Apparently Ashley and her team did a great job in Houston at their race and won!

I’m really happy for Ashley and her crew because they work really hard and are a great team but I’m not too happy about all the attention the Wally has been getting. People are taking pictures of it, and talking about it all the time and Ashley has been smiling all week because of her win and her new Wally. First I was angry about this so I rebelled. I knocked over my bag of cat food. I jumped up onto a shelf and knocked over all of the CD’s and DVD’s on it (that was fun!) and I tried to run through the screen door like dogs do in the movies (that was not so fun.) I was really tired after all of my misbehaving so I took a nap. When I woke up the house was clean again, and that trophy was sitting there on the mantle and it was laughing at me! I knew I needed to take another approach.

I then decided to be the best cat in the world. I purred, I cuddled and I looked really cute all the time. I didn’t knock any food out of the bowl, and kept my sandbox neat and I helped Dan and Ashley with the laundry (I played in it.) I could tell the trophy was starting to get nervous.

After a few days the world started to go back to normal. In other words, I became the center of attention again. The Wally is still a big deal and Ashley is very proud and excited about it but at the end of the day the trophy stayed on the mantle and I got to watch TV on the couch with Dan and Ashley. Life was back to normal again and it felt good!
