Simba’s First Blog

Hello race fans! My name is Simba and I am race car driver Ashley Force Hood’s new kitten! I attended my first race the first week that Ashley got me and now I am a big NHRA fan! I may be young (I’m 7 months old) and new to the sport but it has come to my attention that this racing is a big deal and a lot of fun!

This past weekend I went to Pomona for the first race of the 2009 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Season. I had planned on sleeping in the trailer and maybe scratching up the pillows the whole weekend but I ended being quite busy the whole time! I was interviewed by ESPN2 twice, mingled with the fans, took photos with kids and was part of the big team meeting and prayer before the race started on Sunday.

My favorite part of the weekend was hanging out with Ashley’s team. The crew guys come in and check on me. They are usually dirty from the car with clutch dust and oil and it’s awesome because they pick me up and I’m dirty too! Like a real crew cat! I even got to go up into the big rig truck with Andy!
 
My owner Ashley is cool and all but she is a girl and I am technically a pre teen in human years so hanging out with her is a little uncool. Spending time with her guys and Danny is great though and they even let me climb under the race car and around the tool tray at the end of the day!

It was one night while I was exploring the funny car headers that I realized that I get to be a part of a lot of cool stuff and I should be blogging about it! I know that driver’s do blogs and that there are always interviews and stories about the teams each week but what about from the cat’s view?! I see everything and would love to share these great behind the scenes moments with my new racing friends!

I hope you enjoy my future columns and please know that I have had no schooling in journalism (The College of Cats doesn’t have a Communications program yet. They’re main degree’s include Meow 101, Furology 360 and a Master’s in Curtains). Also, remember that I have 4 paws which make typing a challenge so I’ll apologize now for any typos!
