Simba and Gizmo’s February Blog

Happy February race fans! We hope everyone had a nice Valentine’s Day!  We spent ours at the racetrack since the Pomona race was Sunday, February 14. We got to celebrate in the winner’s circle that evening when Ashley’s dad John won the race! That morning, Ashley’s mom said that all she wanted for Valentine’s Day was a win trophy or “Wally” and that’s what she got!

It wasn’t all fun and games though around this lovey dovey holiday. My new little brother Gizmo got in to the Valentine’s candy that Ashley had put out at home and ate a Hershey kiss! When Ashley and Dan got home that night Ashley freaked out and called the emergency pet hospital. The conversation was actually pretty funny to listen to. It went something like this…[In a panicked and frazzled voice] “Hi my name is Ashley and I have two cats…well a cat, and a new kitten and I just got home and found Hershey kiss wrapper’s on the floor and the chocolate is gone! Can cats die from chocolate??!!!...Well my cat Simba is a year and a half and about 13 pounds but he’s a good cat and I don’ think he ate the candy. I’m almost positive it’s my new kitten Gizmo who is only 3 months old and about a pound in a half. He eats everything and I’m pretty sure he smells like chocolate!...Was it dark or milk chocolate? Umm…I don’t know…Dan! Check the trash- what kind of chocolate was it?! [At this point Ashley made Dan go through the trash to find the wrappers.] “He’s not sure because it was Valentine’s Day candy so all the wrappers are pink and purple!” This crazy conversation went on for a little while longer while Dan and I looked at each other and rolled our eyes. Ashley was so worried about Gizmo, and yet he was perfectly fine and actually in the other room eating the leaves off the Valentine’s Day flowers!
I know you will all be very happy to hear that Gizmo was just fine and the pet hospital informed our worried owner that though he might be a little sick, Gizmo would survive the chocolate binge. What they didn’t tell us was how much the caffeine and sugar in the chocolate would affect little one in a half-pound Gizmo. He was bouncing off the walls for hours all night long. That cat was crazy!

Our owner is definitely a holiday type of person and decorates for basically every one of them and Valentine’s Day is no exception. She had out her Valentine’s Day dishtowels, front door sign, and house decorations, and of course the candy until Gizmo found it, but that’s not all. She actually took us to get pictures.  In her defense, she took us to just get some photos of us cats with her and Dan but the photo place had Valentine’s Day props and she couldn’t resist. Sometimes I don’t know which one is crazier…Gizmo or Ashley! Thank goodness Dan and I are the sane ones in the household! –Simba
